Duly completed AIOU PhD admission form (submitted online via fmbp.aiou.edu.pk)
Attested copies of MS/MPhil degree and detailed transcript showing CGPA (3.5/4.0 minimum)
Attested copies of all previous academic certificates and transcripts (BA/BS, Masters)
A detailed research proposal in the relevant subject area, following the department's prescribed format
Evidence of research experience or publications, if any (journal articles, conference papers, thesis)
CNIC (computerised national identity card) copy
Recent passport-size photographs (as specified in the prospectus)
Two academic or professional reference letters
No Objection Certificate (NOC) from current employer, if already in service
Domicile / proof of residence, where required by the department
Fee deposit challan / online payment receipt for the admission processing fee

Do I need to attest my degree copies for the AIOU PhD scholarship?
Yes, attested copies of your MS/MPhil degree, transcript, and prior academic certificates are required — unattested copies can delay verification of your application.
Is a No Objection Certificate (NOC) mandatory?
An NOC is required only if you are currently employed, particularly in a government or semi-government role, confirming your employer allows you to pursue full-time residential PhD study.
What format should the research proposal follow?
Follow the format prescribed by your target department in the Autumn 2026 prospectus — typically including a title, background, research questions, methodology, and expected contribution, aligned with the department's active research areas.
How many reference letters are needed?
Two academic or professional reference letters are commonly required, ideally from your MS/MPhil supervisor or a senior professional familiar with your research capability.
Can I submit documents in scanned/digital form?
Initial submission through the FMBP portal (fmbp.aiou.edu.pk) is digital — scanned copies of all required documents are uploaded online. Original documents may be required for verification after shortlisting, as specified in the prospectus.
