AIOU Admissions 2026

When do AIOU Spring 2026 admissions open and close?
AIOU Spring 2026 admissions opened on January 1, 2026 and close on March 5, 2026. Late admissions with a penalty fee may be accepted for a short period after the official deadline. Always check aiou.edu.pk for the most current status. The next intake — Autumn 2026 — opens July 1, 2026.
What is the minimum educational qualification for AIOU admission?
The minimum qualification varies by program. Matric programs require Class 8 or equivalent. FA/F.Sc requires Matric (SSC). BA/B.Sc and Associate Degrees require FA/F.Sc/Intermediate. BS 4-year programs require Intermediate (minimum 45%). Masters programs require a bachelor's degree (minimum 45%). PhD programs require a Master's degree (minimum 60% or CGPA 3.0/4.0).
Is there a minimum age requirement for AIOU admission?
AIOU has no upper age limit for admission — one of its greatest features. The minimum age is 14 years for Matric programs. For higher programs, eligibility is based on educational qualifications rather than age, making AIOU accessible to anyone who meets the academic requirements regardless of when they left formal education.
Can I apply for AIOU admission online?
Yes. AIOU offers online admission through aiou.edu.pk. Complete the digital admission form, upload scanned copies of required documents, generate a fee challan, and pay at any HBL or NBP branch nationwide. After payment, submit your original documents to the nearest regional campus for verification.
What documents are required for AIOU admission?
Required documents for most undergraduate programs include: attested copies of all previous educational certificates (Matric, Intermediate), attested copy of CNIC or B-Form, 4 recent passport-size photographs (blue background preferred), and the completed fee deposit challan. For Masters and PhD: also include transcripts, experience certificates, two reference letters, and No Objection Certificate (NOC) if employed by government.
What is the AIOU fee structure for Spring 2026?
AIOU fees vary by program level: Matric ~PKR 3,200/semester, FA/Intermediate ~PKR 3,800/semester, BA/B.Sc ~PKR 4,500/semester, Associate Degree ~PKR 4,500/semester, BS programs ~PKR 5,500/semester, B.Ed ~PKR 6,500/semester, Masters (MBA/MSc/MPA) ~PKR 7,000–9,500/semester, and PhD ~PKR 15,000/semester. The fee includes course books delivered by mail, tutor assignment marking, and examination costs.
Is there a fee refund policy if I cancel my AIOU admission?
AIOU has a partial refund policy. If you request cancellation before books are dispatched, a portion of the fee (excluding processing charges) may be refunded. After books have been dispatched, fees are generally non-refundable as the books become your property. Contact your nearest regional campus within the first month of admission if you need to cancel.
Can I change my program after admission?
Program changes after formal admission are generally not permitted within the same semester. However, you may cancel your current enrollment (subject to refund policy) and re-enroll in the correct program in the next semester. Some inter-program course transfers may be allowed — consult your regional campus for specific guidance.
Can I enroll in multiple programs simultaneously at AIOU?
AIOU allows concurrent enrollment in two programs only if both are ODL (distance learning) programs and the combined credit hours do not exceed a manageable study load. You must apply for and pay fees for each program separately. This option is popular among students pursuing a BA while simultaneously completing a professional certificate.
Are there scholarships available for AIOU students?
Yes. AIOU offers several financial assistance schemes: PM Education Endowment Fund (PMEEF) for meritorious students from low-income families, disability concession (50% fee waiver with medical documentation), female student incentive in KP/Balochistan, government employee discount (25% on teacher education programs), and needs-based assistance. Apply with your admission form at regional campuses.

Solved Assignments

How do I find solved assignments for my AIOU course?
Go to the Solved Assignments section on AIOU Studio, select your program level (Matric, FA, BA, BS, Associate Degree, B.Ed, or Masters), then find your course code in the list. Click the View/Download button to access the solved assignment PDF. Assignments are organised by program, semester, and course code for fast navigation.
Are the solved assignments on AIOU Studio free?
Yes, all solved assignment PDFs on AIOU Studio are completely free as study reference materials to help you understand the expected answer depth and format. We do not charge any fee for assignment downloads. Premium key books and helping books for exam preparation are available separately.
Can I submit these solved assignments directly to my tutor without changes?
No — and this is very important. Solved assignments are reference guides to help you understand what a complete, well-structured answer looks like. Always rewrite the content in your own words before submitting. AIOU tutors are trained to identify copied assignments, and submitting plagiarised work may result in zero marks or rejection of your assignment.
How are AIOU assignment marks distributed?
Each course has two assignments per semester, both counting toward your Continuous Assessment (CA) marks. The average of Assignment 1 and Assignment 2 scores equals your CA marks, which contribute 30% of your final course grade. The remaining 70% is your written examination score. Minimum passing CA marks are typically 40% (or 12 out of 30).
What happens if I miss the AIOU assignment due date?
Missing the submission deadline makes you ineligible to sit the examination for that course in the current semester. There is no grace period — late assignments are not accepted on the AIOU LMS portal after the due date has passed. If you miss the deadline, your option is to re-enroll in the same course in the next semester and start fresh.
Do I need to write assignments by hand or can I type them?
AIOU accepts both handwritten and typed assignments. Handwritten assignments must be clearly legible, written on plain white A4 paper, with a proper title page. Typed assignments should use a readable font (Times New Roman or Arial, size 12), double-spaced. Both must be submitted as a PDF file on the LMS portal.
What should a proper AIOU assignment title page include?
Your assignment title page must include: your full name as registered with AIOU, student enrollment number, course title and course code, assignment number (1 or 2), program name, semester and year, and your tutor's name if known. A missing or incorrect title page is one of the most common reasons tutors deduct marks.
How do I know if my assignment has been marked by my tutor?
Log in to lms.aiou.edu.pk and check your course gradebook. When your tutor submits your marks, the score appears in the gradebook section. This typically happens 3–6 weeks after the assignment submission deadline. You can also download your marked assignment PDF if your tutor uploaded feedback.

LMS Portal & Online Submission

What is the AIOU LMS portal and what is its URL?
The AIOU Learning Management System (LMS) is the official online platform at lms.aiou.edu.pk for student academic activities including assignment submission, marks checking, roll number slip download, workshop registration, and course material access. Always use this official URL — avoid unofficial mirror sites.
How do I log in to AIOU LMS for the first time?
Your LMS username is your Student Enrollment Number (e.g., 1234567). Your default password is your CNIC number in 13 digits without dashes (e.g., 3520212345678). Visit lms.aiou.edu.pk, enter these credentials, and change your password immediately after first login. If you cannot log in, contact your regional campus to confirm your enrollment number.
What file format should I use for AIOU LMS assignment submissions?
AIOU LMS accepts PDF files only for assignment submission. The maximum file size is 5MB. Use Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word 'Save as PDF', or any free PDF converter app on your phone. Ensure the PDF is clear and all pages are correctly oriented. Submissions in .doc, .jpg, or other formats are not accepted.
My assignment status is showing 'Pending' even after submission — what should I do?
This is a common LMS technical issue. First, take a screenshot of your submission confirmation page immediately after uploading. If the status does not update to 'Submitted' within 24 hours, email AIOU LMS technical support at lms@aiou.edu.pk with your screenshot, enrollment number, course code, and assignment number as proof of submission. Keep the original file safely.
I forgot my AIOU LMS password — how do I reset it?
Click 'Forgot Password' on the LMS login page and enter your registered email address. A password reset link will be sent to your email. If you did not register an email during admission, visit your regional campus with your CNIC to reset credentials in person. Students often avoid this problem by registering a valid email during initial LMS setup.
Can I submit AIOU assignments from my mobile phone?
Yes. The AIOU LMS portal is accessible on smartphones through a web browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended). AIOU also has an official AIOU mobile app available on Google Play Store. You can scan your handwritten assignment using your phone camera (use CamScanner or Adobe Scan app), convert to PDF, and upload directly from your phone.
How do I download my AIOU roll number slip from LMS?
Log in to lms.aiou.edu.pk approximately 4 weeks before your examination. Navigate to 'Examination' > 'Roll Number Slip' section. If your roll number slip is available, click Download and print it on A4 paper. You cannot enter the examination hall without your roll number slip and CNIC. If the slip is not available, contact your regional campus immediately.

Academic Schedule & Dates

What is the Spring 2026 assignment due date?
For Spring 2026: Assignment No.1 is due on June 30, 2026 and Assignment No.2 is due on August 22, 2026. All submissions must be made through the AIOU LMS portal at lms.aiou.edu.pk before 11:59 PM on the due date. Submit at least 5–7 days early to avoid last-minute technical issues.
When are Spring 2026 AIOU examinations held?
Spring 2026 written examinations are scheduled for September 1 to October 30, 2026. The exact date sheet per course is published on the LMS portal approximately 4 weeks before exams begin. Examination centres are typically schools and colleges near your registered mailing address.
When will Spring 2026 AIOU results be announced?
Spring 2026 results are expected to be announced by December 30, 2026. Results are published on results.aiou.edu.pk. Log in with your roll number to view your detailed result showing marks for each course, assignment scores, and examination marks.
What is the Autumn 2026 admission and assignment schedule?
Autumn 2026 admissions open July 1 and close September 5, 2026. Assignment 1 is due December 31, 2026 and Assignment 2 is due February 28, 2027. Examinations are scheduled for March–April 2027 with results expected June 2027.
Do I need to attend workshops for my AIOU program?
Workshops are mandatory for specific programs: ADE, B.Ed, M.Ed, Early Childhood Education, and some science lab programs. For most other programs — BA, BS, Matric, FA, Associate Degrees, and most Masters programs — workshops are not mandatory. Check your course outline on LMS for the specific workshop requirement of each enrolled course.
How do I register for AIOU workshops?
Workshop schedules are published on your LMS dashboard and announced by your regional study centre. Your tutor will also inform you of workshop dates. Register by confirming attendance with your regional study centre at least 2 weeks in advance. Bring your student card and CNIC on the workshop day. Unexcused absence from compulsory workshops results in loss of workshop marks.
How many times can I appear in AIOU exams for a failed course?
AIOU offers repeat examination options for failed courses. You may re-enroll in the same course in any subsequent semester and retake the examination. There is no limit on the number of attempts, but you must pay the fee for re-enrollment each time. Supplementary examinations are available for students who narrowly fail specific courses — check with your program coordinator.

Results, Degrees & Verification

How do I check my AIOU result online?
Visit results.aiou.edu.pk, select your program level and semester year, then enter your roll number. Your detailed result with marks per course — including assignment marks (CA) and examination marks — will be displayed. Results are also available on the LMS portal under the Results section.
How do I find my AIOU roll number?
Your roll number is available on the AIOU LMS portal under Examination > Roll Number Slip, published approximately 2–3 weeks before examinations. If your internet access is limited, visit your regional campus — roll number slips are also dispatched by post to your registered mailing address.
Can I apply for AIOU result rechecking?
Yes. AIOU allows result rechecking (re-totaling of marks) within a specified window — typically 30–45 days after result announcement. Submit the prescribed rechecking form with the fee (approximately PKR 300 per course) at your regional campus. Rechecking verifies correct totaling and eligibility but does not re-evaluate your answer scripts.
How long does it take to receive my AIOU degree after passing?
Degree and certificate issuance typically takes 3–6 months after your final result announcement. Apply through the AIOU Registrar's Office with: proof of passing (result card), degree fee deposit challan, copies of all educational certificates, CNIC copy, and passport-size photographs. Degrees are sent by registered post.
How can I get my AIOU degree verified by HEC?
AIOU degrees are verifiable through the Higher Education Commission's online verification system at hec.gov.pk/degree-attestation. For government jobs and foreign study, attestation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and HEC may be required. Your AIOU degree serial number is printed on the degree — use it for online verification.
Is my AIOU degree valid for government jobs in Pakistan?
Yes. AIOU is fully chartered by the Government of Pakistan (Act XXXI of 1974) and its degrees are recognised by the HEC. AIOU degrees are accepted for all government jobs in Pakistan where the equivalent qualification is required. Many federal and provincial government positions are filled by AIOU graduates.
Can I use my AIOU degree for further studies abroad?
AIOU degrees are internationally recognised through HEC attestation. Many AIOU graduates have been admitted to universities in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, and Gulf countries for Master's and PhD programs. You will typically need HEC degree attestation, MOFA attestation, and may need your transcript translated if required by the foreign institution.

Original Books & Study Materials

How do I receive my AIOU course books after admission?
AIOU dispatches course books by registered post to your mailing address within 4–8 weeks of admission confirmation. If books do not arrive within 8 weeks, contact your regional campus with your enrollment number and challan receipt. You can also collect books directly from the regional campus to save time.
Can I download AIOU original books in PDF format?
Yes. AIOU original books in PDF format are available through the AIOU website and our Original Books section at AIOU Studio, organised by program and course code. Having a digital PDF allows you to study on your phone or laptop even while waiting for physical books to arrive.
What if my AIOU books are damaged or missing?
If your books arrive damaged or incomplete, contact your regional campus within 15 days of receipt with proof (photograph of damaged book). For missing books, submit a written complaint at the regional campus with your enrollment number. Replacement books are provided free of charge in most cases, though processing can take 3–4 weeks.
Are AIOU solving materials and helping books legal?
Third-party helping books — including key books, solved exercises, and guess papers — are commercially published materials and are perfectly legal to purchase and use for study. They are distinct from official AIOU textbooks. Use them as supplementary reference material, not as a replacement for your official course books.

Programs & Courses

What is the difference between BA/B.Sc and BS programs at AIOU?
BA/B.Sc is a 2-year pass degree (requiring 2 years of Intermediate/FA/F.Sc). BS is a 4-year honours degree (also starting after Intermediate). BS programs have a more structured, comprehensive curriculum and are valued more by employers and for graduate school applications. HEC is gradually transitioning all universities to the 4-year BS system.
What is the difference between ADE and B.Ed at AIOU?
ADE (Associate Degree in Education) is a 2-year teacher training qualification aimed at elementary school teachers (Classes 1–8). B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) is a 1.5–2.5 year qualification for secondary school teachers (Classes 9–12). ADE can be a stepping stone to B.Ed. Both are mandatory for government teaching positions at their respective levels.
Which AIOU Masters programs are available through distance learning?
AIOU offers Masters through ODL in: MBA, MPA (Public Administration), M.Ed, MSc (Education, Computer Science, Environmental Sciences, Home Economics, Statistics, Mass Communication, Urdu, Islamiat, History, Mathematics), MA (English, Urdu, Islamiat), and various specialised programs. Check the current AIOU prospectus at aiou.edu.pk for the most updated list as programs are added periodically.
Can I do B.Ed from AIOU while teaching in a school?
Yes — this is one of the most popular uses of AIOU's distance learning. Thousands of in-service teachers across Pakistan complete their B.Ed, M.Ed, and ADE through AIOU while continuing to teach full-time. The ODL format is designed specifically for working professionals. B.Ed is also a requirement for government teacher regularisation.
Does AIOU offer an MBA program and what is the duration?
Yes. AIOU offers an MBA (Master of Business Administration) through distance learning in 2 years (4 semesters). Eligibility requires a 14-year bachelor's degree or equivalent. The MBA covers finance, marketing, management, HRM, and entrepreneurship. It is HEC-recognised and accepted for government and private sector employment.

Technical & General Questions

What is the AIOU student portal URL and what can I do there?
The main student portal is aiou.edu.pk/student-corner and the LMS is lms.aiou.edu.pk. You can: check admission status, download admit cards, submit assignments, access course materials, check marks, download roll number slips, apply for degree, and file complaints. The results portal is results.aiou.edu.pk.
How do I change my mailing address with AIOU?
Submit a written address change request to your regional campus with your enrollment number, old address, new address, and CNIC copy. The address must be updated before books are dispatched for the upcoming semester. Address changes made after dispatch may result in delivery delays. You can also update your address on the student portal.
What should I do if I lose my AIOU enrollment number?
Your enrollment number is printed on your fee deposit challan and on all official correspondence from AIOU. If you cannot find it, visit your regional campus with your CNIC and original educational certificates. They can retrieve your enrollment number from the admission records. Keep a photograph of your admission documents stored on your phone for easy access.
How is AIOU Studio different from the official AIOU website?
AIOU Studio (aioustudio.net) is an independent, unofficial student support platform — not affiliated with the official Allama Iqbal Open University. We provide solved assignments, study guides, academic schedule summaries, original book links, and exam preparation material. For official admission, fee payment, and formal complaints, always use aiou.edu.pk.
Can I access AIOU resources from outside Pakistan?
Yes. AIOU LMS and the student portal are accessible from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. Pakistanis living abroad — in Saudi Arabia, UAE, UK, USA, and elsewhere — are enrolled in AIOU programs. Assignment submission is online, so location is not a barrier. However, examinations typically require physical attendance at an AIOU examination centre, which may be an issue for overseas students.

About AIOU — Allama Iqbal Open University

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) was established on May 23, 1974 through Act No. XXXI of the National Assembly of Pakistan. It is the largest university in Pakistan by enrollment and the second-largest distance learning university in the world, serving over 1.3 million students per semester across all 36 districts of the country.

AIOU's primary mission is to democratise higher education by making quality university-level education accessible to every Pakistani citizen — regardless of their location, income, gender, age, or prior circumstances. Named after the national poet of Pakistan, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the university embodies his vision of khudi (self-realisation through knowledge) in its approach to mass education.

The university operates through an Open Distance Learning (ODL) model: students study at home from course books dispatched by mail, submit written assignments through the online LMS portal, attend optional or mandatory workshops at regional study centres, and take written examinations at local schools designated as AIOU examination centres. This model allows full-time workers, mothers, farmers, soldiers, and people with disabilities to earn university degrees without attending a physical campus.

AIOU Programs and Faculties

AIOU is organised into several faculties including: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculty of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Faculty of Business Administration, and Faculty of Agriculture. Together, these faculties offer over 200 programs at the certificate, associate degree, bachelor, master, and PhD levels in both regular (ODL) and formal semester systems.

Major programs include: Matric (SSC), FA/F.Sc, BA/B.Sc, Associate Degree Arts/Science/Commerce, BS Computer Science, BS Education, B.Ed, ADE, MBA, and MSc Education (M.Ed).
